What are smoker's lines ?
The nasolabial folds and smoker's lines are signs of skin aging that many patients find distressing and challenging. These lines, resembling 'barcodes', are age indicators located around the mouth. They appear around the upper lip and form small striations between the nose and the mouth.
These lines are misnamed as they do not solely occur in tobacco users. They can develop from repeated sun exposure, among those who sip cocktails through straws, or in individuals with very expressive faces.
What does the hyaluronic acid injection process entail ?
Hyaluronic acid injections are performed in a clinic and occasionally without anaesthesia, as the anaesthetic is often included in the product. If not, the aesthetic doctor typically administers a classic local anaesthetic or applies a lidocaine cream. A hyaluronic acid injection is not a trivial procedure and requires the presence of the aesthetic doctor to ensure optimal conditions. The aesthetic doctor assesses each patient to determine precise injection points and then administers the hyaluronic acid into the dermis, which is a few millimetres beneath the epidermis.
A session lasts between 10 and 20 minutes, focusing on the desired areas, usually the lower part of the face: the nasolabial folds extending from either side of the mouth to the chin, the nasogenian grooves running from the nostrils to the corners of the lips, as well as expression lines and smoker's lines, or crow’s feet. Hyaluronic acid is also effective for reshaping the lip contour and filling hollows in the face, under-eye areas, cheekbones, cheeks, or hands.
At the end of the procedure, the aesthetic doctor massages the treated areas to ensure an even distribution of the product. Assimilation by the body is gradual, and the final result is optimal 10 days after the procedure.
