Overcoming brown spots? It's possible!

They are true sources of complexes… Often deemed unsightly, brown spots or age spots appear on the skin for various reasons. Nevertheless, these excess melanin deposits, which one could do without, can be eradicated through different aesthetic treatments. So there’s no need to panic; there is a solution to every inconvenience!

What is a brown spot?

These are small spots on the skin of varying sizes, often located on the face, hands, arms, or shoulders. This is no coincidence, as these areas are directly exposed to the sun during fine weather! Brown spots are therefore a direct consequence of excessive sun exposure over many years. They often reveal themselves after the age of 40, but they can also be present in younger individuals due to prolonged sun exposure. They may appear, for example, after sunburn. This is why sun exposure should be approached cautiously, definitely not between 12pm and 4pm!

Brown spots are generally not dangerous to health, but it is essential to remain vigilant to avoid confusing them with a melanoma. They often appear on individuals with fair and thin skin, but this is not an absolute rule since even darker skin types can be affected. A consultation with a dermatologist is strongly recommended. If they do not require specific treatment, they can still be subjected to aesthetic treatments to help fade them.

How to remove brown spots?

Several techniques can effectively eliminate brown spots. These include peeling or laser treatments.

The Mela Peel

The Mela Peel is a recommended alternative for treating pigmented lesions and dermal melasma on higher phototypes. In other words, this medical peeling will be equally effective for both fair and dark skins. The specific cosmetics prescribed by the doctor after this peeling helps prevent rebound pigmentation that Asian or dark skin types tend to experience following certain peelings.

If a session lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, it is divided into several stages. Initially, the skin is cleansed and then treated with a specific foam. The doctor subsequently applies the keratolytic peeling solution over the entire face. Finally, the Mela Peel mask is applied, particularly on the most pigmented areas.

The patient can return home with the mask and slightly flushed skin, but nothing more. The transparent mask will be hardly noticeable, although it will need to be rinsed off with water and removed 8 hours later. The spots will gradually fade, leaving behind a uniform and radiant complexion. A repairing and protective cream should then be applied every morning and evening for the following month to maintain and enhance the results. The Mela Peel is available in two forms: classic and strong, depending on the effect sought by the patient.

The laser

When signs of ageing (brown spots…) appear prematurely due to sun exposure, laser photorejuvenation can be employed to treat brown spots and improve skin texture. The skin then appears more youthful. The light beam is directed at an irregular area of the skin. The anomaly is then eliminated and collagen production is stimulated.

Unlike peeling, there is no shedding of the outer layer of the skin. This laser photorejuvenation treatment gently penetrates the skin and destroys imperfections without damaging the outer layer. However, if a few spots need to be eliminated, anticipate a 5-day healing period for each one.

Multiple sessions of 15 to 20 minutes are often required for optimal results. Effects are noticeable from the first treatment. A sunscreen should be applied as a precaution for 3 to 4 days following the treatment.

If you notice brown spots emerging, don’t panic! Several aesthetic treatments can significantly fade them. Do not overexpose yourself to the sun, so you can keep only its benefits.
