Leg varicose veins: how to treat them?

Number of readers : 14307

How can you recognise thread veins on the legs?

Thread veins can appear on the face or body. They are marks that create an aesthetic complex regardless of their location. Thread veins on the legs can result from various reasons: the use of contraceptives, vascular insufficiency, sun exposure, ageing, or heredity.

They can develop independently or in clusters... In the latter case, they are supplied by a more dilated vein. The vascular laser is ideal for eliminating these thread veins, which can be a source of complex for your legs.

Why opt for vascular laser?

Thread veins in the legs are treated with vascular laser. This tool emits a targeted beam of light for the thread veins being treated without damaging the surrounding tissues. This is known as selective photocoagulation. The blood within the thread veins is coagulated. The vessel is blocked and ceases to function, resulting in a darker colour. It will naturally disappear after being absorbed by the immune system over the course of a few weeks.

The initial consultation allows the doctor to answer all your questions and also to screen for any potential contraindications to vascular treatments. A clinical examination will be carried out, and sometimes even a laser test to familiarise you with the treatment and assess its reaction on your skin.

To begin the session, your skin will be disinfected with an antiseptic solution. The sensation of the laser varies from patient to patient and differs depending on the treated areas. At the end of each session, a healing and moisturising cream will be applied to the skin. It will be necessary to stay hydrated for a few days and to avoid sun exposure for about ten days. Generally, 2 to 3 treatments will be required, and results will be visible after 4 to 6 weeks. The treatment duration is between 10 to 40 minutes depending on the treated area. For the legs, the area is larger than that for the face. The number of sessions will be specified by the doctor based on the area to be treated, the characteristics of the skin, and the vessels.

After the first consultation, a reflection period will allow you to decide whether to proceed with the treatment or not. In any case, a professional will guide you based on your expectations.
