What is a recessed chin?

The harmony of the face is the subtle result of balancing different proportions. Some particularly charming features can be difficult to blend with others that are more pronounced. This is the case with a recessed chin, which may affect self-esteem. A chin is referred to as "recessed" when it is set back compared to the rest of the face. This corresponds to a posterior positioning of the mandible, the lower jawbone. Thus, a recessed chin gives the neck a thicker appearance and increases the risk of a visual double chin.

This can also accentuate the size of the nose, create misalignment of the teeth, and even lead to breathing and sleeping difficulties. Often, genioplasty (a non-surgical procedure that increases the projection of the chin using hyaluronic acid injections) is advised. This volumetric effect enhances facial contours while respecting natural principles since this molecule is naturally present in the body.

Why choose hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a plumping molecule naturally present in our body. It helps maintain a good level of hydration in the epidermis, thus keeping our skin baby-soft! As we age, skin tends to lose its firmness, and fine lines appear. Moreover, every decade, we lose 6% of our hyaluronic acid reserve. Injections of this anti-aging agent can remedy the lack of skin hydration, fill in wrinkles, redefine volumes (such as the cheekbones, chin...), and tone the features of the face and neck.

Thus, the chin area may appear unsightly due to the natural aging process, with the emergence of folds, or due to the very morphology of what is considered a "recessed" or "square" chin. Hyaluronic acid injections can correct a recessed chin. They will restructure the entire lower third of the face, redefine the jawline, delineate facial contours, enhance its oval shape, provide support to the lower lip, refine the face, and correct the chin fold that has developed over time.

Hyaluronic acid injections are performed in a consultation and sometimes without anaesthesia, as the anaesthetic is already included in the product. Otherwise, the aesthetic doctor may administer standard local anaesthesia or apply a lidocaine cream for this purpose. An injection of hyaluronic acid is not a trivial procedure and requires the presence of an aesthetic doctor to be carried out under optimal conditions. A session lasts between 10 and 20 minutes to treat the desired areas, often focusing on the lower part of the face.

Do not hesitate to seek the opinion of a professional to no longer suffer from a recessed chin that may require some touch-ups.
