What is considered a recessed chin ?

The harmony of the face is the subtle result of balance between different proportions. Some very charming features can be difficult to reconcile with others, particularly pronounced ones. This is the case with a recessed chin, which can affect personal self-esteem. We refer to a “ recessed chin ” when it is set back in relation to the rest of the face. This corresponds to a position where the mandible, the bone of the lower jaw, is retracted. Thus, a recessed chin gives the neck a thicker appearance and increases the risk of a visual double chin .

This can also accentuate the size of the nose, lead to poor alignment of teeth, and even result in difficulties with breathing and sleeping. Often, genioplasty (a non-surgical procedure that involves increasing the projection of the chin through hyaluronic acid injections) will be recommended. Thus, the volumizing effect helps to enhance facial contours while respecting natural principles since this molecule is naturally present in the body.

Why opt for hyaluronic acid ?

Hyaluronic acid is a plumping molecule naturally found in our body. It helps maintain a good level of hydration in the epidermis, thereby keeping your skin baby-soft! As we age, the skin tends to lose its firmness, and fine lines appear. Furthermore, every decade, we lose 6% of our hyaluronic acid reserves. Injections of this anti-ageing agent can remedy the skin’s hydration deficit, fill in wrinkles, redefine volumes (such as the cheekbones, chin…) as well as tone the features of the face and neck.

Thus, the chin area may have an unappealing appearance due to the natural aging of the area with the emergence of folds, the very morphology of the so-called “ recessed ” or “ square ” chin. Hyaluronic acid injections can correct a recessed chin. They will restructure the entire lower third of the face, redefine the mandibular line, outline the contours of the face, enhance its oval shape, provide support to the lower lip, refine the face, and correct the chin fold that has developed over time.

Hyaluronic acid injections are performed in a clinic and sometimes without anaesthesia, as the anaesthetic is already included in the product. Otherwise, the aesthetic doctor will administer standard local anaesthesia or apply a lidocaine cream for this purpose. A hyaluronic acid injection is not a trivial procedure and requires the presence of an aesthetic doctor to be carried out under optimal conditions. A session lasts between 10 and 20 minutes to treat the desired areas, often the lower part of the face.

Do not hesitate to seek the advice of a professional to no longer suffer from a recessed chin that may require a few touch-ups.
