Leg varicose veins: how to treat them?

Number of readers : 13679

How can you recognise varicosities on the legs?

Varicosities can appear on the face or body, creating aesthetic concerns irrespective of their location. The varicosities on the legs may result from various factors: contraceptive use, vascular insufficiency, sun exposure, aging, or genetics.

They develop independently or in clusters... In such cases, they are fed by a more dilated vein. The vascular laser is ideal for eliminating these varicosities, which can be a source of self-consciousness for your legs.

Why opt for vascular laser treatment?

The varicosities of the legs are treated with the vascular laser. This tool emits a targeted beam of light to treat the varicosities without damaging the surrounding tissue. It involves selective photocoagulation. The blood contained within the varicosities is coagulated. The vessel is blocked and ceases to function, resulting in its darker colour. It will naturally disappear after being metabolised by the immune system in a few weeks.

The initial consultation will allow the doctor to answer all your questions and identify any potential contraindications for vascular treatments. A clinical examination will be performed, and sometimes a laser test will be conducted to familiarise you with the treatment and assess how your skin reacts.

To commence the session, your skin will be disinfected using an antiseptic solution. The sensation of the laser varies from one patient to another and also differs depending on the areas treated. At the end of each session, a healing and moisturising cream will be applied to the skin. It will be necessary to stay hydrated for a few days and to avoid sun exposure for about ten days. Generally, 2 to 3 treatments are required, and results will be visible after 4 to 6 weeks. The duration of the treatment is between 10 to 40 minutes, depending on the area being treated. For the legs, the area is larger than for the face. The number of sessions will be specified by the doctor based on the area to be treated, the characteristics of the skin, and the vessels.

Following the first consultation, a reflection period will allow you to decide whether to proceed with the treatment. In any case, a professional will guide you according to your expectations.
