Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is one of the many specialties offered by the Laser and Aesthetics Centre. It is essential to understand that such a treatment is not to be taken lightly, and therefore certain precautions must be taken to ensure you receive a high-quality “permanent” laser hair removal. Do you have questions about laser hair removal? Here are our answers to the most commonly asked questions:

Is laser hair removal painful?

If you can tolerate waxing, you will not find laser treatment painful. However, you can ask us to prescribe a numbing cream to apply before the session.

Can laser hair removal be performed on the face?

It is essential to differentiate between the types of hair on the face. Thick hair will be treated with the same laser as for the body (alexandrite / Yag laser), but it is crucial not to use these lasers on fine hair. For this, our laser centre is equipped with a Revlite Qswitch laser that allows for the denaturation of fine hair.

What happens after laser hair removal sessions?

80% of patients require 6 sessions to achieve long-lasting hair removal. 20% of patients will need a maintenance session once a year or every 2 years.

How does one feel after laser hair removal?

The laser destroys the hair by heating it to a high temperature. As a result, after a laser session, one may experience redness and a tingling sensation. This feeling typically lasts between 2 to 6 hours. A soothing cream is therefore recommended.

Can all areas of the body be treated with laser?

While it is easy to talk about leg, bikini, and underarm hair removal, the attitude changes when it comes to sensitive areas: namely the face, stomach, chest, and men's back. Indeed, if you have never epilated these areas before, laser hair removal should be avoided in favour of the Revlite laser for fine hair. All of this is assessed and discussed during the essential initial consultation.

What is the duration of a laser hair removal session?

The time spent on a session varies depending on the area to be treated and the hair growth. One should allow 15 minutes for a bikini area and 1 hour for the legs.

Is a consultation appointment mandatory before a laser hair removal session?

Completely, as there are precautions to take depending on each patient, and the assessment will allow me to explain in detail the course of the session and provide you with a personalised quote.

What should I do in the event of a hormonal imbalance?

Conditions such as polycystic ovaries and hormonal imbalances unfortunately lead to excessive and bothersome hair growth. Laser treatment is a comfortable solution, but the number of sessions will inevitably be higher.

How do we explain the number of laser hair removal sessions?

Hair grows in three phases, and the laser will be effective in the first phase, which is the hair growth phase. As not all hairs grow at the same time and during the same phase, this explains the need for multiple sessions.

Can I go out in the sun after a laser hair removal session?

When you come for a laser hair removal session, your skin must be completely free of tan. Otherwise, you risk developing spots on your skin. However, you can go out in the sun the day after the session by applying a factor 50 sunscreen for the 8 to 15 days following the treatment.
