Remove solar lentigo with Revlite laser
At the end of summer, sun exposure can leave more marks than just sunburns! We then speak of lentigo, which are darker spots on the skin. Often referred to as "age spots", these brown blemishes appear on the most exposed areas of the body such as the face and hands, and are more commonly attributed to ultraviolet rays than to aging.
What is lentigo?
There are several types of brown spots, resulting from excessive melanin production that causes hyperpigmentation of the skin. Some spots have an obvious source, such as the well-known pregnancy mask linked to hormones or spots resulting from skin inflammation.
The solar lentigo, on the other hand, corresponds to an accumulation of melanin in areas of the body that are particularly exposed to the sun. Thus, brown spots do not appear with age, but rather as a result of the accumulation of years spent under the sun's rays. While the emergence of these spots may trigger stress, rest assured that they are generally benign and common. However, it is important to monitor their progression on the body. If lentigo occurs, some opt for the application of essential oils with anti-pigmentation properties, such as celery or carrot oil. But there is an appropriate aesthetic alternative.
Why choose the Revlite laser?
To treat pigmented lesions, the Revlite laser will have a photo-mechanical effect. Indeed, the photons from the laser beam will travel at high speed to the melanin molecules in order to destroy them. Thus, unlike pulsed light, the laser has a wavelength that will only be absorbed by the pigments we wish to eliminate.
A preliminary examination will be necessary to determine the nature of the bothersome pigmented spots. This practice allows for the removal of the first layers of the epidermis. It also facilitates the gradual fading of skin breakage. The laser performs a superficial exfoliation. Therefore, it promotes the creation of new collagen deep within. The number of sessions will depend on the severity of the spots.
On the day of treatment, it will be essential to ensure that you have not been in the sun and that your skin is thoroughly cleansed and free of makeup. The laser beam will then be applied to the spots. The sensation is not painful; you may feel a slight warmth. At the end of the session, you can apply a moisturising cream locally. After about three weeks, a fine film will naturally fall away, taking the pigments of the spot with it. If a second session is necessary, it should be carried out between four to six weeks later.
If you have lentigo, do not hesitate to consult a professional to truly establish the origin of these spots and also to get rid of them if they are bothersome.
