Why Do We Have Swollen Legs ?

Heavy! That’s the sensation felt when the legs are swollen. Stick-like legs, nothing more unbearable! The ankles double in size… There are many causes of swollen legs, some minor but still worth monitoring. This leg swelling is related to fluid stagnation and can be painful. It can complicate walking. The swelling is often caused by venous insufficiency, which can lead to an oedema (often related to a problem with water retention).

Swelling may sometimes lead one to see a doctor to rule out a potentially serious cause. Swollen legs can also be a sign of phlebitis, kidney disease, or heart failure. This should not be taken lightly.

Why Rely on Pressotherapy ?

Pressotherapy is a technique that stimulates venous and lymphatic circulation. It is an effective treatment for venous disorders of the lower and upper limbs. Through this type of lymphatic drainage session, oedemas, feelings of heavy legs, or swelling disappear. This technique will also work excellently alongside manual drainage carried out in physiotherapy. It has the power to act on veins and cellulite, eliminating water retention. It will also serve as a preventive measure against the appearance of varicose veins. Thanks to its optimum action, it enables the elimination of toxins.

HOW DO PRESSOTHERAPY SESSIONS UNFOLD?

If pressotherapy tones the silhouette, it is suitable for both women and men experiencing circulation issues, oedemas, or that unpleasant sensation of heavy legs. Pregnant women can even benefit from it for their legs only. 10 to 15 sessions are recommended to achieve a good balance and improve the silhouette of your legs. The more sessions, the more patients will notice the impact of this treatment on water retention or cellulite. Pressotherapy is not painful. It is conducted using an electrical device in continuous mode (to treat venous insufficiency) or sequential mode (ideal for targeting cellulite and acting on water retention). The device consists of sleeves for the arms and boots for the legs, as well as an abdominal belt. A session lasts on average between 30 and 40 minutes. A medical appointment should take place beforehand to ensure there are no contraindications. Do not hesitate to consult a doctor to understand the cause of these swollen legs before starting pressotherapy.
