Why do we have swollen legs?

Heavy! That is the sensation felt when the legs are swollen. Legs like tree trunks, nothing is more unbearable! The ankles double in size… There are numerous causes of swollen legs, some of which are not serious but should still be monitored. This swelling of the legs is linked to fluid stagnation and can be painful. It can complicate walking. The swelling is often caused by venous insufficiency, which can lead to oedema (often related to a water retention issue).

Nevertheless, swelling may sometimes lead one to consult a doctor to rule out a potentially serious cause. Swollen legs may also be a sign of phlebitis, a kidney condition, or heart failure. This should not be trivialised.

Why opt for pressotherapy?

Pressotherapy is a technique that activates venous and lymphatic circulation. It is an effective treatment for venous disorders of the lower and upper limbs. Thanks to these lymphatic drainage sessions, oedemas, feelings of heaviness in the legs, or swelling disappear. This technique is also an excellent complement to manual drainage performed in physiotherapy. It has the power to act on veins and cellulite by eliminating water retention. Furthermore, it serves as a preventive measure against the appearance of varicose veins. With its optimal action, it facilitates the elimination of toxins.

HOW DO PRESSOTHERAPY SESSIONS WORK?

If pressotherapy refines the silhouette, it is suitable for both women and men experiencing circulatory disorders, oedemas, or that unpleasant sensation of heavy legs. Pregnant women can even benefit from it solely for their legs. 10 to 15 sessions are recommended to achieve a good balance and improvement of the silhouette of your legs. The more sessions there are, the more patients will notice the impact of this treatment on water retention or cellulite. Pressotherapy is not painful. It is performed using an electric device in continuous mode (to treat venous insufficiency) or sequential mode (ideal for targeting cellulite and acting on water retention). The device comes in the form of sleeves for the arms and cuffs for the legs, along with an abdominal belt. A session lasts on average between 30 and 40 minutes. A medical appointment must take place beforehand to ensure there are no contraindications. Do not hesitate to consult a doctor to understand the cause of these swollen legs before embarking on pressotherapy.
